Health & Nutrition

YOKESO’s health and nutrition program intends to include building, equipping and running healthcare centres, training midwives and traditional birth attendants, providing medication and carrying out health and hygiene training. Muslims in general and those in Kenya in particular are still at the denial stage of the existence of HIV/AIDS. Therefore, YOKESO has focused on issues of HIV/AIDS programmes and has experience in behavior changes through seminars, workshops and rallies. To intensify HIV/AIDS prevention YOKESO thus undertakes targeted advocacy in conjunction with Muslim clerics, professionals and the various stakeholders thus taking lead in prevention, treatment and care of HIV/AIDS.

Education

Education serves as the means to bring about the desired change in society, to develop a generation of virtuous individuals and thus contribute to the development of good human beings. The fundamental purpose of education is to gain knowledge, inculcate the forms of proper conduct and acquire technical competency. Education serves as the means to develop oneself physically, mentally and socially. YOKESO is thus committed in realizing an educated society. This is done through workshops, promotion of adult education programmes, career awareness to students and sponsoring bright and needy students to further the education.

Environment, Water & Sanitation

The environment is facing all forms of threats from polythene bags or the plastic menace, global warming and climate change due to emissions of greenhouse gases, deforestation, pollution both air and water, soil erosion and many more. YOKESO is committed to the protection and conservation of environment and natural resources. This is done through cleanup and awareness campaigns to educate the populace on best hygiene practices, the adverse effects of deforestation and generally the importance of environment for human survival. This helps to give the environment a human face. In this aim YOKESO works with representatives from UN-habitat, National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), the County government and the local community.

General Welfare

The Millennium Development Goal of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger is still an illusion. More than half the people in Kenya live in abject poverty and the youth have not been spared either. YOKESO seeks to empower and develop capacity of the poor people to have sustainable means of livelihoods. YOKESO supports the needy people to break their fast during the Holy Month of Ramadan and this is done in all the YOKESO centers in Nairobi, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Kajiado as well as the refugee camps in Daadab. As part of fulfilling the needs of the poor in the community, YOKESO also performs Udhiya programmes annually.

Iftar Programme

The Holy Month of Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and one of the five pillars of Islam, during this month Muslims all over the world have to fast by refraining from food and drinks among others from dusk to dawn for 30 or 29 days and perform extra prayers and supplications. The Iftar (breaking of fast) programme is an annual event that has been a routine activity since 2004. It is implemented by YOKESO through the sponsorship of our partners and other well- wishers. The program is intended to help poor youth within the reach of the YOKESO centers to get an opportunity to break their fast in during the Holy month of Ramadan
